How to Join BannerWomen

Step 1: Does My Site Qualify?

Not all sites are accepted, nor is just any page accepted. Here is a checklist that might help you see if your submission is a good fit for this program.

  • Which Membership Level is appropriate for you?
  • Standard Membership

    • No minimum volume requirement.
    • 2:1 ratio to earn free banner exposures for your banner (for every 2 banners displayed on your site, your own banner is displayed once on another member site).
    • An additional bonus banner exposure credit for your banner every fourth time any banner from our network is clicked on.
    • Standard level of monthly bonus banner exposures awarded by BannerWomen.

    Premium Membership

    • No minimum volume requirement.
    • Home page is registered in the network as an active page.
    • 2:1 ratio to earn free banner exposures for your banner (for every 2 banners displayed on your site, your own banner is displayed once on another member site).
    • An additional bonus banner exposure credit for your banner every fourth time any banner from our network is clicked on.
    • A Premium level of monthly bonus banner exposures awarded by BannerWomen.

  • The audience to your website is primarily female.
  • It is not about who owns the website but who visits the website online. That is what makes the BannerWomen network effective - targeting an audience that all members both offer and want to attract more of: women. Its easy to guess the demographic of your audience if your content is female-focused (i.e. breast cancer, resources for moms, women's basketball). It's not as easy of your content is not specifically geared toward women.

And we don't mean 51% as being primarily female-oriented. Obviously, we focus on websites that clearly can demonstrate their website audience has a STRONG female demographic.

If your content is not female-focused or obviously of a topic that would attract mostly women to your site, we need documentation of how you know your traffic meets this requirement. This could be one month's worth of results of online surveys, guestbook entries or some other data gathering process. But sites which are female-focused in content meet this requirement by logical assumption.

  • The banner on your site MUST appear within the first screen shot.
  • Some website owners prefer to place banners at the bottom of their pages (and some networks don't mind if this is done). But there is a very good reason why our network requires the banner to be viewed within the top screen shot (no scrolling required to view the entire banner):

Our BannerWomen network is about helping female-oriented website build their traffic and bring new visitors to their website. The network can't be effective at doing that with the banners buried at the bottom of pages. All marketing research agrees that click-through on banners fall more than 75% (!!) below the first screen shot. And if no one clicks, you don't get new visitors!

So we ask our members to commit some space within their first screen shot and this means YOUR banner will appear in the most effective location on other member sites for the most successful return on your free advertising as possible. Fair is fair and the point is to generate visitors for everyone in the network.

And to help keep our network the best performing available for women online, we will deactivate members who do not keep the code in the first screen shot.

So, its not about interfering with your design or trying to overpower your site - its about maintaining a high-quality network which will effectively bring new users to your site. And hey - all the big sites have allocated a spot for banners ads - you are just getting your targeted advertising to a female audience for free!

  • Your content is compatible with general guidelines
  • Because this is an advertising network, not all types of content are appropriate for this platform. We are unable to accept sites that have sexual content (or links to sexual content), controversial issues (such as pro-life/pro-choice topics), sexuality content (such as lesbian content or sexual education), anti-men or other potentially offensive topics or any content which may be deemed to be inappropriate for an advertising network. We are not saying these topics have no place online or are less valid as websites, they are just not appropriate for this particular advertising program.

  • Your site (or page) is promotion ready
  • Many people submit sites that are not finished and/or launched. Others submit pages that are not promotion ready in that the page may just be a couple of pictures and a handful of hotlinks.

Our network will bring you new visitors - make sure there is a reason for them to stay and check you out and maybe even bookmark your site and return!
